About Zoe's work

Zoe Williams's practice is primarily concerned with the creation of immersive environments and objects, which, holding a veneer of seduction, seek to access the cerebral through sensual experience. Through the use of isolated motifs and signifiers, these elements are branded with a recurrent visual language through which she wishes to mobilise a subtly transgressive dialogue. These motifs and the techniques supporting them are drawn from a wide range of sources including the worlds of luxury culture, advertising, fashion, craft, ancient symbolism, classical iconography, and the histories of artefacts and their materiality. Through the exploration and juxtapositions of these broad reaching influences Williams wishes to open up dialogues around the pressures of power, the politics of sex and the economics of production.
