As an artist, musician and writer, much of Norman Shaw’s practice explores the interface between art and music, from his interdisciplinary research into the sonorous nature of the Highland landscape to the curation of various exhibitions, such as Prints of Darkness (2010), exploring the aesthetic significance of the record cover and his involvement in the Heavy Metal Mouth exhibition in 2009. His DJing has taken him from playing Detroit techno to experimental noise, and his live performances range from vocal improvisation with the likes of Usurper and Dylan Nyoukis (he recently appeared as part of Usurper at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s Tectonics festival in Glasgow), through to guitar-driven experimentation with the bands Nob and nimrod33, together with remixing Gaelic psalms and re-appropriating black metal sonics.

For GENERATION By Night, Norman will be improvising on the sonorous aspects of the exhibition using guitar, voice and electronics.
